If you ask me, Johnnie Walker Black label is a “good enough” whisky that's made just the slightest bit better by the fact that it's available everywhere. It's interesting enough as a product to take a critical look at.

This one snuck up on me. You guys know I'm a sucker for a focused, well-considered flavor profile, and this is a direct hit. Value-minded drinkers may find a new favorite.

Don't let the (low) price scare you off. This isn't discount-grade Japanese whisky, but a graceful and well-crafted product. Not just for highballs!

Today, we're taking a look at a fun one. Chivas 18 is neither boring like its little brother nor overpriced like a lot of those no-goodnick Johnnie Walker products. It's not just a great blend, but a great whisky period. Overall Rating: ★★★
Up next: a weirdo liquor that defies categorization and begs for a reason to exist on the shelf. Much to my surprise, it turns out it ain't all that bad! Overall Rating: ★☆☆
A light, otherwise boring whisky might be able to escape the sharpest barbs of criticism if the price was good. However, the distillers want about $45 for this, and at that price this bottle has nowhere to hide. Overall Rating: ⃠
