So, an interesting one today, and a classic East-meets-West kind of deal. Is it still bourbon after the way they age it? Maybe! Is it good? Definitely!

It’s always a challenge to get people to pay big bucks for a Scotch without an age statement, and if you do it wrong people will remember. Here’s a good case study of when things go right.

An interesting bottle in that it comes to us with something of a (*gasp*)... storied reputation. And yet, I do think it's decently good stuff.

We toss the word complexity around a bit without ever really going into it. Now's as good a time as any to see what all the fuss is about!

They could have called it anything else, literally anything, and been better for it. The whiskey itself is surprisingly not bad, and a huge step up from Bushmills' white label.

The Doublewood is one of the few single malt scotch whiskies I actually dislike. Chalk it up to a mix of personal taste and overexposure I'll explain in more detail.

Auchentoshan isn't really known as a powerhouse distillery. So what do you do when you know the market is itching for boldness? You force yourself to be something you're not. Here, it's surprisingly successful.

Sometimes it's important not to let a distillery's mass-market offering color your opinion of their entire range. I really don't like the standard Jameson much, but I quite enjoyed this.

Sometimes even a huge, faceless conglomerate can get something right. If you're fine with drinking the scotch equivalent of an Adele song, there's enough going on with the Glenfiddich 18 to warrant a look. Overall Rating: ★★☆
There's a lot about the Bowmore 15 "Darkest" that's fairly criticized for being inauthentic. However, I think it tastes great, so I'm conveniently looking the other way. Overall Rating: ★★☆
The Lasanta is the awkward middle child in the Glenmorangie cask-finished lineup: not pretty like the Nectar D'Or and not bold like the Quinta Ruban, it slumps into a distant third place. Overall Rating: ★☆☆
Sometimes we buy an expensive bottle of scotch almost knowing that it can't live up to our expectations for the price point. But when it does, boy is it a treat. Overall Rating: ★★☆
